Job Description:

Material Handler - Warehouse/Forklift

 

We are seeking an experienced Material Handler to join our Warehouse team. This is a full-time, permanent role offering a Monday-Friday schedule having hours of 10:30 am - 6:00 pm. and we offer a generous benefits package.

We will train on Forklift use and will supply steel-toed shoes.

The Material Handler performs order picking and packing duties, which require a full understanding of Warehouse procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include: (Other duties may be assigned):

Responsible for promoting and contributing to a positive, cooperative working environment.

Reports all safety concerns to a member of the Warehouse management or Facilities management.

Removes stock from storage locations and delivers it to assigned packing locations.

Routes materials to storage locations; storing, stacking, or palletizing materials in accordance with prescribed Company methods.

Verifies stock against pick tickets, noting and reporting discrepancies and obvious product damage to management.

Packages materials for shipping UPS: selects the appropriate shipping container, inserts any enclosures, selects requested mode of shipment, weighs each package, and applies correct shipping labels.

As needed performs any special handling requested by the customer, (i.e., applies purchase order number to carton, applies customer part number to cartons, or repackages order as customer requested).

Prepares LTL orders for shipment:

Verifies palletization of orders to minimize freight charges.

Re-stacks pallets when necessary.

Checks items being shipped for correct item, quantity, and sales worthy appearance.

Wraps pallets to ensure shipping integrity.

Weighs pallets and assigns carrier based on destination, commodity class, and customers' preference in such a way to minimize customers' shipping charges.

Runs and applies computer generated shipping documents and labels.

Prepares bills of lading.

Loads all LTL orders onto their respective trailers before departure every day.

Restocks packaging stations with all necessary supplies from bulk storage location.

Keeps the surrounding work area neat and free of debris.

Equipment used includes all in-house material handling equipment, computerized small package shipping system, laser printer, tape dispenser, and stapler.

Employees in this position are required to wear steel-toed shoes and safety hats in accordance with the Company's policies.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.

Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract six-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 100's and 1000's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Knowledge of stock.

Ability to operate and be certified on all appropriate material handling equipment.

Basic computer experience.

 

NON-MANDATORY JOB REQUIREMENTS - not absolutely required but will enhance applicant/employee chances for success.

Experience with packaging for shipping UPS, FedEx, or postal services domestically or internationally.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to converse with others and be able to hear equipment alerts and alarms.

The employee is frequently required to lift, move, and retrieve items weighing up to 70 pounds and occasionally assist with items weighing 70-150 pounds.

Employee is frequently required to be mobile and regularly required to stand while working at heights of up to 19 feet, handle objects, use tools, mount and dismount, occasionally ascend and descend.

Specific vision abilities required in this job include close vision, distance vision and depth perception.

Experience and Skills:

High school diploma or equivalent

1-2 years related warehouse experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
